Safecontractor is a contractor accreditation scheme that assesses the health & safety competency of contractors. Many large organisations now use Safecontractor as their primary means of selecting contractors.

They capture a variety of information on contractors capabilities which will assist you when selecting a contractor for a new project or contract.

Audits are undertaken by health & safety professionals, all qualified to degree level or equivalent and with a variety of specific qualifications and backgrounds, including:

• Environmental Health Officers
• MSC in health, safety and the environment
• Registered Safety Practitioners, with the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health

An internal professional guidance note sets the professional standards and procedures to be followed by the auditors.

This scheme is a first level check and does not account for site or job specific criteria that you may need to consider. The scheme does not remove the clients' statutory duty under health & safety legislation, but does help to demonstrate you have taken all reasonably practicable steps.
