The British Association of Removers is the UK's largest
established and recognised Trade Association for removals companies
(inception in 1900). All member companies must meet strict standards
and agree to inspection on a regular basis to ensure that their facilities,
equipment and expertise remain at the highest level.

In fact, fewer than 700 removals companies in the whole
of the UK can claim to be members.
Many of its members are also accredited with the European
Quality Standard for Removals: BS EN 12522.
All member companies must use trained staff and appropriate
vehicles.
They must provide written quotations before any work
is undertaken and offer service schedules and plain English contracts
to ensure any confusion is avoided.
All member companies must have insurance that meets BAR
standards.
All members agree to comply with the BAR Code of Practice,
covering how the company operates and how they work with customers.
THe British Association of Removers has its own training
division, training over 2000 people every year.
BAR operates a free conciliation service, backed up by
an independent arbitration scheme.
They have now achieved OFT approval. The aim of
the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme is to promote and safeguard consumers'
interests by helping consumers identify better businesses and to encourage
businesses to raise their standards of customer service.
